Continuum - Live at Smup

Linae is a trio formed by João Almeida on trumpet, Rodrigo Pinheiro on piano, and Vasco Furtado on drums. The trio came together during a studio session where we record our first album, "Linae," which received high praise upon its release in 2023 under the Phonogram Unit label.

Later in 2023, we embarked on a brief tour across Portugal, performing four concerts. One of these performances took place at SMUP, a venue in Parede near Lisbon known for its cozy ambiance, excellent acoustics, and attentive, silent audience. These qualities make SMUP an ideal space for musicians to explore improvisation. As we were all very pleased with the music that night we felt compelled to share it.

At SMUP, the historic Blüthner piano, with its old and fragile sound, added a unique color to the trio's music. Despite not being in perfect shape, its delicate and beautiful tone, especially in the high registers, brought a distinctive dimension to the performance.

"Continuum - Live at SMUP" features three extended free improvisations, showcasing the trio's ability to develop ideas organically while attentively listening to each other. The communication within the trio is fluid and intuitive, grounded in mutual trust.
